Hoe kan je in een kleinere ruimte toch een groot podium zetten? Of er tenminste voor zorgen dat het niet klein lijkt. Denk maar aan podia in tv-studio's. Die zien er op tv ook veel groter uit dan ze in werkelijkheid zijn.
Met deze 5 tips kom je al een heel eind:
1. Veel of weinig publiek
Houd rekening met de grootte van je publiek. Heb je een groot publiek, zorg dan voor grote en opvallende podiumelementen. Is je publiek eerder beperkt, zorg dan dat de details veel meer naar voren komen en opvallen.
2. Laat de ruimte voor je werken
Plaats het podium tegen een muur of in de hoek van de zaal. Zo beperk je in werkelijkheid de ruimte die je inneemt, maar lijkt het podium toch groot. Zoek je een leuke achtergrond, zet je podium eventueel voor de video wall die je toch al had voorzien. Heeft je zaal een laag plafond, werk dan in de breedte. Maak je podium groter door aan de zijkanten stukken bij te zetten. Decoratieve elementen van het podium herhalen in de rest van de zaal, doen het geheel ook groter lijken.
3. Benut de vloer
Huur je een podium, dan ziet de vloer er meestal nogal versleten uit. Bekleed de vloer met een event-tapijt. Kies dat in de kleur en stijl van het thema van je evenement of van de ruimte waar het podium zich bevindt. Dat doet het platform meteen ook een stuk groter lijken.
4. Kies voor lichte verlichting
Werk met 'lichtgewicht' verlichting in plaats van de traditionele zware verlichtingselementen aan een truss. Gebruik kleine LED-armaturen die je aan muren of plafonds bevestigt. Ze creëren mooie abstracte effecten.
5. Werk je geluidssysteem weg
Verhoog het podium en werk je geluidsboxen weg in de vrijgekomen ruimte onder het podium. Let er wel op dat dat niet altijd mogelijk zal zijn voor de akoestiek. Of gebruik kleinere geluidssystemen die je aan de rand van het podium of op de vloer kan bevestigen.

You can make the stage appear bigger by adding sections on the sides. By repeating decorative elements of the stage in the rest of the room, it will also go a long way to making the overall effect seem larger.
3. Use the floor
If you rent a stage, the floor usually looks quite worn. Cover the floor with event-quality carpeting. Choose a color and style that complements the theme of your event, or reflects the space where the stage is located. This will also immediately make the platform seem a lot bigger.
4. Choose 'lightweight' lighting
Use 'lightweight' lighting instead of the usual heavy lighting elements on a truss. Use small LED fixtures that can be attached to walls or ceilings. They create beautiful abstract effects.
5. Put your sound system out of the way
Raise the stage and put the loudspeakers in the free space below the stage. However, note that this will not always deliver the best acoustics possible. Another option is to use a smaller sound system that you can arrange at the edge of the stage or on the floor.
